What is CCL?

Charges explained

The Climate Change Levy (CCL) is an environmental tax imposed by the government to encourage UK businesses to improve their energy efficiency and reduce consumption. This tax is charged at the point of supply and applies to electricity, gas, liquid petroleum, and solid fuels (such as coal, lignite, and coke).

Business energy suppliers are responsible for applying the appropriate CCL to the taxable commodities they supply. Once collected, the CCL charge is passed on to HM Revenue & Customs.
